Lice: Causes, Symptoms & Effective Treatment

Lice are tiny parasitic insects that infest the scalp, hair, or body, feeding on human blood. They are highly contagious and can affect people of all ages, though most commonly seen in children. Understanding  , their signs, and treatments helps prevent spread and irritation.

  • Direct head-to-head contact with an infected person
  • Sharing combs, hats, hair accessories, or towels
  • Poor hygiene (more relevant to body  )
  • Crowded living conditions or communal spaces

  • Intense itching, especially at the scalp
  • Visible lice or nits (eggs) attached to hair shafts
  • Red bumps or sores from scratching
  • Feeling of something moving in the hair

  • Medicated shampoos or lotions containing permethrin or pyrethrin

  • Use a fine-toothed  comb to remove  and nits
  • Repeat combing every few days for 2 weeks

  • Wash bedding, hats, and clothing in hot water and dry on high heat
  • Vacuum carpets, furniture, and car seats

  • Comb, hairbrush, hats, scarves, and towels

  • Tea tree oil, neem oil, or coconut oil may help in repelling or suffocating
